Angels Follow in Blind Obedience

Angel Devil

I’d rather laugh with the sinners, and cry with the saints. The sinners are much more fun. Only the good die young.-Billy Joel

“I’ve always wanted the wings of angels tattooed down the length of my back,” she announced to him. “I’m thinking the bloody remains of them are more appropriate now.”
He told her, “You’re no angel. You’re much better than that. Angels follow in blind obedience, you get to choose.”
“We are all of us broken. And broken is not okay, but it must occur if we are to be reborn, yes?”
He continued, “Jesus was broken, but He rose above. Follow his lead, should you choose, and you’ll be alright, kid.”
She responded, “You have been sent to me by Him. You know that, don’t you?”
“I’ve tried to follow His lead everyday.”
She continued speaking her most private thoughts out loud, “I’ll keep mending-Darling, I hope you do the same.”

“This was something she would keep hidden within herself, maybe in place of the knot of pain and anger she had been carrying under her breastbone…a security blanket, an ace up her sleeve. She might never use it, but she would always feel its presence like a swelling secret stone, and that way when she let go of the rage, she would not feel nearly as empty.” ― Jodi Picoult, Mercy

Anger

Blood

Bruises

Cuts

Scrapes

Tears

Raven Haired Beauty

Broken Heart

Broken Wings

Shoes on Point

Broken Smile

She stands on her own

She extends her arms

And her beautiful legs

She smiles

Feels the music in her soul

No need to hear it

She doesn’t need anyone to help her dance

She stands on point

Fingers brush through her raven hair

She holds her delicate arms above her head

And does a perfect Chaînés

In that first turn, she lets go

And knows that she does not need him to hold her up anymore

She is free

To dance, to feel, to live

There’s no need for wings for her to fly

Ascent

She stood at the edge of the cliff, readying herself for the next step. She told herself she could do it. That she had been preparing herself for this very moment. She closed her eyes, breathed in the salt air of the sea, and listened to the roar of the waves hitting the rocks below. The smell and the sound beckoned her, telling her just one more step and she would be free….. She thought about what brought her here. Her sadness, her fear, her life. She steadied herself one more time and with a clear mind and heart stepped off the edge. She could feel herself falling but she had no fear. She put her arms out, felt the tattooed wings on her back become real, protrude and catch the wind. She was flying and she would never be afraid again…..
