Genre: General fiction mixed with a memory
The walls are curved and so stark you’d think they were white washed. I’m touring with teenagers that are acting like surly children. Finally, I’ve had enough and I plod back to the main floor past works of art the children do not care to see.
The artwork begs for my attention, yet I’m too exhausted to look. I just want two minutes to myself. I lift my eyes upward and become entranced.
The lobby docent utters, “no photos are to be taken here”. Standing in the center of the room, I smile and click the camera on my phone.

Got to say those discreet photographers and noisy kids do annoy me at museums! I can understand her need for that moment of peace though 🙂

The story was fiction, but I really DID do this! About 15 years ago I was on a field trip with my son and a bunch of his friends in NYC. It was our third day of constant touring and I’d had just about enough. While in the Guggenheim, I grabbed my digital camera and stealthily shot a photo of the skylight. The docent in the lobby DID catch me, but the deed had already been done. Lol!
I’m so glad to be writing for FF again. I’ve been writing every day this week and it feels terrific!

Oh, been there, done that! In fact just last month I was in Canada at a Chinese garden. While the tour guide told us about a billion wonderful things I snapped pictures everywhere. Upon leaving one of the temples I found a sign – “Do Not Take Photos.” Oops.
Good on you for taking photos anyway. We have to get some good glimpses of beauty because life is just too short not to.
