Β “My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, O king.” (Daniel 6:22, NIV)
Moonlight sprinkled on the golden manes of the ferocious beasts. Blood from previous victims painted the walls and bones laid scattered on the stone floor.
The lions lifted their snouts to devour the scent of the old man standing in the middle of them. His hands were raised to Heaven as he prayed in tongues that these Kings could not decipher.
As the night wore on, Daniel continue to pray, but the creatures remained docile. And their mouths stayed closed.
As morning light glinted upon the fur of the sleeping lions, the old man knew his God had saved him.
100 words/Genre: Biblical Fiction
Thank you Rochelle Wisoff-Fields for hosting Friday Fictioneers. I’ve been out of the game for a long time because I’ve been lazy and not very inspired. The last two weeks have found me excited to write again. I hope you like the story. Please know that I expect criticism and kudos. Or just plain old criticism. Have a great day everyone. xoxoxoxoxox
Not much for prayer myself, Renee, but I love your story.
Beautifully told.
Honey, prayer is the only thing that has gotten me through the last year. That and a lot of ankle surgeries.
I’m glad you liked my story. That means a lot.
Love,
Renee
If prayer worked for you, my dear Renee, then I am more than happy.
And I sincerely hope that your ankles are now as wonderful as your smile.
Thank you my dear.
Biblical is different for you. Why continue to pray if it worked. Doesn’t show confidence. Confidence is what animals sense and back off from.
Daniel continued to pray because it is what he had always done. He loved God and even when his King told him he could no longer do it and was thrown to the lions, he didn’t give in. He showed his love for God and prayed while the beasts surrounded him.
You’re right this is not the genre I usually write in, but sometimes we need to break out of our comfort zone to find a new normal.
Love,
Renee.
As always I wish you good luck in your writing endeavor.
Thank you my sweet.
Dear Renee,
I’ve always had a fondness for Daniel and you did him justice. Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Dear Rochelle,
Thank you for the kudos. It means a lot to me because I feel so out of my element these days. I promise to continue practicing every week. Take care and thanks again.
Fondly,

Feeling your heart Renee, no criticism required π

Renee, I found this beautiful. More than religion..it’s about the strength of faith and you have shown that beauty with the behaviour of those majestic animals as they ‘ ..devour the scent of the old man..”
Thank you. I really liked that sentence too. I mean, they are still ferocious beasts, and I had to convey that they were. Even though they didn’t eat Daniel.
Love,
Renee
Well done Renee, loved the mix of gospel and the prompt
Why thank you very much.
Love,
Renee
Great retelling of the bible story. We used to read that to my younger son as his name is Daniel.
Oh Liz, I’m so glad that you liked it. And I like the fact that you read the story to your son. I bet that’s a good memory for him, now that he’s grown. At least, I’m assuming he’s grown.
Love,
Renee
