I March to the Beat of a Different Drummer

“If a man loses pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured, or far away.”-Henry David Thoreau

I prefer not to hitch onto someone else’s star. I want to make my own way. When I was growing up, I always did what I was told. I kept up appearances. Followed the crowd. Er, as far as my family knew, I did.

At the age of 45 I prefer to march to the beat of my own drummer. I bang that drum loudly. On a daily basis. I’m not a typical woman, and I never want to be.

When it comes to this writing thing, I prefer to make my own way. I have no idea about sentence structure, word meaning, or even punctuation. I don’t know what makes a good writer. I want to tell a damn story, and tell it well. So my readers feel it.

I’m going to keep doing just that. With the help of other writers, a thesaurus, an easily broken-heart and a good editor. As I said, I prefer not to hitch my star onto someone else.

Happy Birthday to me, and may the next 45 years be as adventurous as the last 45. God willing, there will be that many more.

  1. RenΓ©e,
Happy birthday. I think I have now wished you happy birthday everywhere I could. I even peed your name in the snow outside our home. That’s right.

    • I am most certainly honored Le Clown. Especially for the fact that you peed my name in the snow. I am beside myself with joy. You sure know how to woo a girl. XOXOXXOXOXXO

      Love, Sparkly Girl

  2. Awe darlin that was fantastic Happy Birthday!!! and 45 no way I would never guess it. That “younger” you photo at top, yep you and I would have made a hot couple back in the day πŸ˜‰
Take care you look happy its good to see.

  3. Happy Birthday Renee! I’m sorry I didn’t know in advance, I might have written something for your birthday, although I’m really challenged with the A-Z Challenge right now. March to your own drummer & we’ll just follow along like in a parade!

    • I’m following along on your blog. I love the B is for Bandit entry. I sure do love me a sweet puppy dog. They’re the best form of anti-depressant I know.

  4. Happy Happy Wonderous Birthday. My deepest admiration goes to you. I don’t think life would be as radiant without you in it. Kiss the sun, hug the moon, and dance with the stars.

    • Thank you sweetheart. I made sure to do all of those things yesterday, and I’ll be sure to do so again today. And the next, and the next, and the next.

  5. Happy Birthday for yesterday Renee, hope you had a brilliant day and have a fantastic year ahead πŸ™‚
Lots of love and best wishes for a really happy birthday!

  6. I’ve quite missed you too Renee, and yes thanks I am ok though I had a bit of health troubles( nothing serious) but i’m fine now I think πŸ˜‰ but mainly just a lack of time to get on here and comment or blog, real life has been so hectic!

I love your video, I’ll listen properly later, and also that fantastic picture at the top of your page, 80’s babe!
I’ve got to say you’ve worn well Renee, but you had a good canvas to start with πŸ˜‰

Hopefully I’ll be able to be on a bit more if time permits but don’t worry if you don’t see me for a bit or you just get a load of likes on your blog,it’s only because of time pressures.
Hope you are ok,and life is treating you well, I’ve got about a months ( at least! ) of entries of yours to catch up on to find out πŸ˜‰
Lots of love n hugs, it’s really nice to see you again,

    • I’m glad you’re better. I’ve missed you so. Not sure if you know or not, but a couple of my short stories were published by Ether Books. Can you believe it? I’m a published author now. πŸ˜‰

The photo is from when I was 17. I’ll always be that girl in my heart.

No need to comment or like my writing. I’m just glad you’re okay.

      Love, Renee

  7. Wow!
That is brilliant news Renee,CONGRATULATIONS!! !:-)
Well done babe, I bet you’re over the moon.. and Roger and the kids must be sooooo proud. I think it’s fantastic, what an achievement, sincerely, well done Renee πŸ™‚

I figured that you were around that age in the pic, it’s funny , I know exactly what you mean, inside you don’t grow older, it’s just the outside that can’t take the pace any more.
I’ve been lucky work wise, I started when I was 17 and worked for the same boss for 28 years.
But in 2004 we closed the branch I was at and my boss sat me down and we had a frank chat about the future, but part of what i said was that I still saw myself as a young 17 year old and not the middle aged man I was then, and I suppose even now 10 years on I don’t think I’m as old as I in fact am… It’s only when I’m doing stuff that I used to do easily and find a bit hard now, that the awful realisation starts to hit home, and I realsie I am in fact old 😦
I’m off for a snooze now as all this writing has taken it’s toll πŸ˜€

I’ll keep in touch Renee, don’t worry, and thanks for missing me πŸ™‚
    lots of love n hugs

  8. Happy birthday Renee! I loved hearing you talk, it gave me some idea what it would be like to sit and have coffee with you! And yes, you DO have a book in you. I KNOW it. So no excuses.

    • I know Yaz. It’s the fact that I need to stay focused for a long period of time that has me perplexed.

Thanks for the sweet words and always being here for me.

      Love you, Renee
