I just got back from a quick walk across the diag. It’s a lovely day here in Ann Arbor. There’s not a cloud in the sky, and the city is alive with the sounds of traffic and people. The trees have all gotten their leaves and the blooms of an early spring are all a memory. I love this wonderful city. This college town. Home of the Michigan Wolverines. I grew up here. Walked the streets here when I was a young wild child. Got into trouble here. Have some of my best memories here. I can’t wait to live here again.
I can’t wait to be able to get up in the morning go out my front door and walk to work. To walk past the student ghettos, the wonderful downtown with all its historic buildings. To hear the rush of city buses going by and to see all the students. Especially the new ones with their eyes full of wonder and fear. Trying to figure out how in the hell they’re going to live without mom and dad for the first time. To see all the beautiful young women and beautiful young men on the diag. And all the dogs out walking their owners.
I can’t wait for the first summer evenings when Rog and I can head to Top of the Park, or the Ann Arbor Art Fair or hell, even the Hash Bash. I haven’t been to one of those since I was a teenager. I can’t wait to go to a seedy bar and listen to a kick ass local band. To run the streets for my health this time instead of trying to find trouble or boys.
I don’t want to wish my life away, but I so can not wait to be a part of the A2 universe again…….

A2?
trivia time: do you know how they got the name “wolverines”?
trivia time: do you know how the rivalry with ohio state began?
No and no. You tell me…. 🙂
More than a hundred years ago, there was a strip of land between ohio and Michigan, and they were fighting like hell over it. They were even shooting at each other about it, although the shooting was always so far away that nobody was ever hit. I think ohio everntually got the land, not sure, but during the fighthing, the ohio people would yell “wolverines!” at the Michiganites? Michiganeers? Whatever you guys are. They’d call them wolverines because it was a scavenging animal that ate dead animals. It was generally an insult, but the Michigan side took pride in being called such a thing. They liked it enough to keep it, make it their mascot.
I think i do remember hearing that story at one time or another. And my dear we are called michiganians. Wink, wink.
I love it here, too!!! 🙂
I know honey ain’t it great?
