Is there anything better than the love of a doggie?

The more boys I meet the more I love my dog.–Carrie Underwood

I remember when I first started dating Roger he had 5 dogs. Little crazy Schnauzers that ran his life. It was fun watching him interact with them. He just loved them so much. They were like his furry children. Fortunately for him and me, I loved doggies too. I think it also gave me a glimpse of the kind of father that he would become. Which was incredible by the way. Talk about a father that was hands on from the beginning of our children’s lives….. He was and still is a great father.

There’s nothing like crawling into bed, snuggling with the one you love, and then feeling the whump and thump of a dog as they jump into bed to snuggle with you too. My Heidi Jo sneaks up as close to me on the pillow when I’m sleeping and stares at me. Then as I open my eyes, she has to lick my face. She brings me such incredible joy. There is something to be said for that unconditional love. You could have the suckiest day that ever sucked, but when you get home there’s that happy, furry face just waiting for you.

I guess that’s why I came home last November and told Roger Darling that I was going to get a second job in a pet store. And I did. πŸ˜‰ I just wanted a job that I was passionate about. It was so incredibly cool to have people bring their dogs in and I got to pet them and then help with their pet care needs. It’s very fulfilling. Now I’m working the grooming salon. I get to love on and wash doggies on Wednesday and Thursday nights and all day on Sundays. Ah what a good life.

So if you’re having a bad day go hug a puppy. If you want a dog of very own, rescue. If you see an animal being mistreated step in. And if you have a doggie at home that you’re not treating as well as you should, stop it. Give that doggie the most love you can. Because that’s what they do for you, no matter how long you leave them alone, without food and water. They still love you when you walk in that door……

  1. I really really wanted a dog when I was a child but my mom refuses. I want all those “puppy love” you’ve said. Hope to get one soon!

  2. Get a puppy, and please rescue. It’ll be the best thing you’ve ever done. Really, I promise. Just look into their eyes and see all that love and you’ll be gone…..

  3. You would get on well with my other half Em. We have a mini schnauzer and as barky as he is, and he is, he is also adorable. He’s known as Bear although he’s called Bailey (you’ll understand why). He’s not allowed on the bed and neither is our rescue lab Annie – the cat would have them both, as that is her domain. You’ll like my other half’s blog which is all about our dogs: Cheers Stu πŸ™‚

    • Love the entry you sent me Stu. Bear is adorable. Annie looks like she loves her bed, but she barely fits in it. πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing it with me…. I’ll be sure to follow both of your blogs…. Don’t you just love a schnauzer? They’re such a hoot!

      • We do love our schnauzer although he can try our patience with the barking as we both work from home mostly – not too professional when you’re on the phone! πŸ™‚

      • I use a spray bottle filled with water to curb the barking. When they start to bark I spray them. They’re so conditioned now all I have to do is grab they bottle and they shut right up. It’s humane and doesn’t hurt them.
